Academy for Educational Development (AED)

For over 48 years in the U.S. and over 40 years internationally in developing countries, AED has worked to support education, believing that it is the key to hope and possibility. Working at all levels of the educational system, AED programs include improving teaching and learning, student achievement and access to education and educational opportunities, as well as increasing parent involvement and integrating technology into education strategies.

Mercy Corps

Mercy Corps embraces a broad definition of education, including programs such as teaching livestock breeders in Lebanon less costly ways to grow feed, building temporary classrooms in Darfur's refugee camps, constructing all-girls schools in the West Bank, showing residents in Central Asia ways to promote peace among neighbors and demonstrating more efficient farming techniques in South Sudan. In operation since 1979, Mercy Corps has provided $1.5 billion in assistance to people in 106 nations.

Room to Read—since its inception in 2000, helps children in the developing world gain the lifelong gift of education. Room to Read partners with local communities throughout the developing world to provide quality educational opportunities by establishing libraries, creating local language children's literature, constructing schools, providing education to girls and establishing computer labs. Through the opportunities that only education can provide, Room to Read strives for early intervention in the lives of children, believing that education empowers people to improve socioeconomic conditions for their families, communities, countries and future generations.
